【To return home safely in case of a disaster】For individuals

 
*【Large scale disaster】If there is a near-field earthquake in the Metropolitan area, in many cases it is expected that many people would not be able to return home.
 
1. Trains/subways stop operating.
 
2. Road stoppages or regulations take place, demand for transportation grows, resulting in a large traffic jam.
 
3. Each individuals safety is to be protected on their own.
 
4. Avoid unnecessary moving.
 
◆【Individuals’ sensible actions】
 
1. Start with gathering information.
 
a. Use portable radios and television to collect accurate information.
 
b. Pay attention to wireless disaster prevention and protection related information provided by municipalities, police and fire department.
 
c. Do not trust rumors or information by sources undeterminable.
 
d. Act precisely, have a presence of mind.
 
e. Avoid making unimportant phone calls, or calls that do not need to be made in a haste.
 
f. Do not pass on information that you are not sure of.
 
2. To check the safety of family.
 
a. Prepare a way of contacting family members in case of a disaster.

3.Think about ways to get home
 
a. Carry a map
 
b. Remember landmarks and streets by walking and traveling by bus.
 
c. Get a grasp of hazardous places.
 
d. Check convenience stores and gasoline stands.
 
e. Street views change appearance in day and night
 
4. Prepare a set of useful tools to used in an emergency, incase you have to go home from your school or office.
 
a. If returning home by foot, there may be a need to prepare in advance.
 
b. There may be a need to prepare drinking water, working gloves and flashlights.
 
5. Support for people returning home by walk
 
8 Prefectures/cities, have an agreement with stores like convenience stores to provide toilets, tap water and traffic information within their possibile range to support people returning home by foot in case of a disaster.
