The situation: you’re working on a task, but at some point it becomes clear that it’s too complex to remain just a task. Or maybe a section in your project has grown so full of tasks that it deserves to be its own project! We’ve got a solution: the feature that lets you convert tasks and sections into projects.
Here is a practical video by Nozbe expert Mike St. Pierre, showing exactly how this feature works in the app and when to use it.
Converting a Task into a Project
When a task gets too complicated, and you’ve already added checklists and involved multiple people via comments, it may be time to convert it into a full project for easier management.
How to Convert a Task into a Project
Open the task and tap the “…” icon in the top-right corner of the task details. Choose “Convert to project.” Before confirming, you can decide whether to transfer all comments or only the pinned ones.
What Happens When You Convert a Task – Details
Nozbe will create a new project using the task’s name.
The original task will be linked in the new project’s description.
All checklist items will become individual tasks in the new project. Any completed checklist items will be converted into completed tasks.
Other materials like files and text comments will be moved into a separate “Additional materials” section inside the project.
If the original task was in a shared project, all new tasks will be assigned to “Anyone.”
If the task was in your private project, the new project will also be private. Checklist-based tasks will be assigned to you; “Additional materials” tasks will be assigned to “Anyone.”
The original task will be marked as abandoned. You can always restore it from the original project.
Converting a Section into a Project
If a section grows too complex or task-heavy, you can convert it into a project.
How to Convert a Section into a Project
Go to the section, tap the “…” icon next to its name, select “Convert to project,” and confirm your choice.
What Happens When You Convert a Section – Details
Nozbe creates a new project with the same name as the section.
All active tasks from the section (including comments) will be moved to the new project.
Completed tasks will not be moved.
If the section was in a shared project, the new project will also be shared. Task responsibility settings will remain the same.
If it was a private section, the new project will also be private.
📍 The original section will be archived and its tasks marked as completed. You can restore the section anytime.
Try This Feature
To stay organized, don’t let a task or section grow out of control—it’ll be harder to manage and motivation may drop in the chaos. Turn elements into projects when needed. It’s easier to stay on top of things.
Effectiveness isn’t about rigid rules. It’s about being flexible with your work.
