Welcome back to our FAQ series in which we tackle popular questions that our users ask us in their emails and messages. This month we’re discussing an underused but powerful feature of Nozbe - the possibility to format text comments using Markdown markup language.
Did you know that approximately 65% of the population are visual learners? Most of us process information based on what we see. We also tend to pay more attention to those elements that stand out. Because of that, from time to time we receive the following question:
Hi there,
First, I’d like to thank you for making such a great app. Our whole team switched to Nozbe a month ago and we already feel that our productivity has skyrocketed!
We recently had a discussion about task comments in our team. We’d love to be able to add some bold, italics and headers to our text comments so that we can emphasize the most important information within them. Is there any way we can achieve this?
And the answer is…
…Of course you can! It’s possible to format your text comments in multiple ways by using Markdown.
By typing in a few additional symbols (such as asterisks, hashtags and dots) you’ll be able to change your plain text to feature visually highlighted words, phrases and even whole paragraphs.
Here’s how to do it!
In order to create a bulleted list, simply use an asterisk and a space - just like this:
- one thing to do
- another thing to remember
- third thing that needs to be done
Example of Markdown-formatted text
To give you an idea, take a look at this text written in markdown:

You can also type three asterisks, ***, in a new line of text to create a horizontal line. Use this if you want to divide paragraphs within one comment.
It is also possible to add a bulleted list within a numbered list.
To do this just type something like this in your comment window:

Using Markdown in checklists
You can also use Markdown syntax in checklists. This way, you’ll be able to add links, blocks of code, bold and italic to the checklist points. Here’s an example of how to format a checklist:

Comment headers
Sometimes it may be necessary to divide a comment into a few sections. It you’d like to highlight the name of these sections, you can use “#”, “##” and “###” in front of a text line to change it into a header.
For example, here’s how your headers should look when you’re typing:
Header One
Header Two
Header Three
Header Four
And here’s how they’ll look after you save your comment:
